Continuing its series of social activities to support localities affected by storm No. 3, Southeast Asia Commercial Joint Stock Bank (SeABank, HOSE: SSB) and BRG Group joined hands with Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper to plant 68,000 trees, equivalent to VND 1 billion, to green nearly 20 hectares of forest area and recover livelihoods in Lao Cai province.
Storm No.3 with historic strength has swept through Vietnam and caused severe damage to properties and people in the northern provinces/cities. Lao Cai is one of the localities that suffered terribly from loss of infrastructure, houses, crops, forestry, etc. caused by floods and landslides from storm's circulation.
With an aim to jointly overcome the consequences of Yagi storm, support afforestation and reforestation, and recover livelihoods, SeABank and BRG Group joined hands with Nhan Dan Newspaper to gift and plant 68,000 cinnamon trees. The trees, worth VND 1 billion in total, have been planted in Bac Ha and Bao Yen districts (Lao Cai province), including Lang Nu village (Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district) – one of the most affected areas. The local Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in coordination with local Forest Protection Department, will help plant and care for the trees, guaranteeing to grow into nearly 20 hectares of forest.
Cinnamon is known to be the main forestry tree in these localities, thanks to its suitability for soil conditions, high economic efficiency as well as its crucial role in conserving, preserving and reserving local ecology and biodiversity. In addition, forests act as a shield to retain water and block the flow, thereby preventing floods, erosion, landslides and reducing the severity of natural disasters.
This is one of SeABank's activities to support localities affected by storm No. 3, demonstrating the Vietnamese spirit of mutual love. Previously, the Bank has donated VND 2 billion to the Vietnam Fatherland Front Central Committee for purposes of natural disaster relief; donated additionally VND 1 billion to employees and people in affected provinces such as Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, etc. for purposes of after storm recovery.
Pursuing the core value of “Community orientation”, afforestation is one of the main activities to focus on by SeABank, aiming at protecting the environment and ecosystem along with developing sustainable forestry economy. From 2019 to present, SeABank has donated more than 350,000 trees and special-use forest trees to localities including: Lao Cai, Ha Tinh, Dak Lak, Thanh Hoa, Long An.
